The park maintains a “Kandal Kaadu” or Mangrove forest with 35 species of Mangroves. The Mangroves keep the backwaters healthy and its roots provide shelter to numerous species of fishes during spawning. Their dense roots bind the soil of the banks of the rivers, save it from erosion and absorb the impact of waves during natural surges. The maintenance of the Mangrove Forest at the park helps in its propagation all along the river banks.
